Host Coin of Charles VI (ruled 1380-1422), Vlack 1a Type - 1640 countermark on a Charles VI Blanc dit Guenar, 5th Emission, authorized May 10, 1417, Ciani 507. Duplessy 377d. Choice Very Fine, an amazing grade level for one of these countermarks, the host coin well struck, with full legends and nice silvery-grey surfaces that have no appreciable marks or damage. The countermark is somewhat weakly impressed at the very center of the reverse where the arms of the cross meet, suggesting some care was taken in its placement. Listed as a full R-8 by Vlack. It is interesting that even for such extremely rare host coins there are variations in dates or major types for the collector to pursue.
