Host Coin of Louis XI (ruled 1461-1483), Vlack 1c Type - 1640 countermark on a Louis XI Blanc a la Soleil, Ciani 759, Duplessy 553. 1st Emission, authorized November 2, 1475. Very Good to Fine overall, the host coin weakly struck and cleanly worn, but with no appreciable marks or damage from extensive circulation, and fully attributable even though well used. Also an extremely rare host coin, rated full R-8 – and indeed, this specimen is from the personal collection of Robert A. Vlack, and is accompanied by his distinct typewritten envelope. When he was writing his reference this was only example on a coin of Louis XI that he was aware of. Quite rare, as are all of the pre-1500 host coinage types.
