1767-A French Colonies Copper Sou. Vlack 13-M. Very Fine, in an NGC holder with that grade and the details designation due to reverse scratches. An extremely rare variety, this is actually the Vlack PLATE COIN for this reverse die, and was the only example Bob was able to locate at the time. The obverse is choice, everything bold. The reverse is nearly as sharp, but has a multitude of thin, hairline scratches over most of the surface, detail that can be easily matched to the Vlack plate. The coin is a nice medium brown, and is actually attractive since those reverse scratches are ancient and have toned down to the surface color. This series is one of the least-researched, and pieces are seldom attributed when offered for sale, but this variety has remained extremely rare, and is a plate coin to boot! From the Philip Keller collection, purchased in 1961 from Richard Picker, and accompanied by his original envelope.
