The United States and Britain appointed representatives to "define the line between New Brunswick and Lower Canada on the one hand and Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York on the other". Work proceeded in 1816 until 1821. The US rejected the decision of these representatives and the King of the Netherlands was asked to arbitrate. William the First did so unsuccessfully but these 3 medals were produced to mark his decision. This is the first time we have seen all 3 metals together, in copper, brass and silver.
