CH LC-43A2. Another sorry example, but with a fabulous provenance. The sou was purchased at the Montreal C.N.A. Auction, held under the auspices of the venerable Jim Charlton. Two important Canadian collections were being offered, the first being that of Fred Bowman; the second was that of Lindsay McLennan, who had acquired the Bateman collection. This piece was from the Bateman/McLellan collection, and, as the old Bateman tag indicates had been acquired by Bateman from J. H. Bronsdon in 1897. He was the son of one of the founders of the Numismatic & Antiquarian Society of Montreal, J. L. Bronsdon. It was later sold to Roy Hughes of Kailua, Hawaii in 1969. The sou was in pristine condition when purchased in 1965 but has suffered dramatically, perhaps due to climate or storage when in the custody of Mr. Hughes. It was sold at the Hoare Sale in February, 1995. The piece was later acquired by Richard Cooper.

Note: this lot is part of The Richard Cooper Collection.
