A very interesting packet of documents involving the establishment of mining in BC. The documents belonged to George H. Bayne, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He moved to Rossland, BC and was resident there until his death at 44 years of age. He was mauled by a bear and at the time was Managing Director Of the Homestate mine as well as owning several properties around the town of Ferguson. He was well known in mining circles in the Kootenays. The documents here involve his borrowing money from the Merchant's Bank of Halifax, Rossland Branch. The money was to be used to purchase shares and company expenses. Very historical and early mining papers that show the setting up of a new mining operation in the province.
