Can Ida/St. Amant, (1820 Halfpenny).

Copper. EF. An interesting colonial, often associated with the Blacksmith coppers. Two varieties exist, the other being dated 1820. McLachlan's hoard, part of which was published in The Numismatic and Antiquarian Society Journal in July, 1889 references sixty specimens which were found in the part of the hoard that got to Montreal. The hoard consisted of discredited coppers circulating during the time of the Rebellion of 1837-8, and 12,000, contained in three boxes were discovered in the vaults of the Quebec branch of the Bank of Montreal. It has now become scarce and respected as an important piece in the Canadian colonial series. Ex:Henderson.
