Canadian Countermark - Leaf-shaped ornament / L.J.A. SURVEYER (curved) / a rayed ornament / MONTREAL on rev. of U.S. Indian head cent, 1860. The ornaments are engraved. (M.I. 868, Brunk S-1126).

Louis-Joseph-Arthur Surveyer (fig. 50) was born in Beauharnois, Quebec, on May 16, 1841. He determined on a commercial career and opened a hardware store in 1866 on Craig Street in Montreal.
