Canadian Countermark - TK countermark on rev. of Blacksmith copper, Wood 18. This is a fine countermark strike on a coin that has been doubly clipped, eliminating about 20% of the piece (Marked Impressions). (M.I. 896, Brunk K-16).

Various speculations have been made concerning the possible issuer of these marks which I have only seen on early (pre-1840) coppers. My most recent notion is that they may represent small change in a lumber camp, and while not provable it seems to me a more tenable suggestion than those previously discussed.
