Assortment of Cheques from Massachusetts. Ten different, dates run 1831 (2) to 1901. Interesting group, particularly a cheque from the Asylum for the Chronic Insane, 1882, which was exempt from tax; also Wachusett National Bank, 1878, showing a relocation from Bedford to Fitchburg and sporting a very nice train vignette. - Assortment of U. S. Old West Cheques. 16 cheques, including Rocky Mountain National Bank, Colorado Terr., 1869, featuring the Monarch of the Glen vignette; an 1878 Oregon cheque negotiated through the Bank of British Columbia branch at Portland, an 1882 cheque from Bismark, Dakota Terr.; Wells Fargo Bank, San Francisco, 1889; attractive 1875 cheque on London & San Francisco Bank, etc. Nice little collection, evocative of the Wild West. - Another Diverse Lot of U. S. Cheques. Twenty old cheques, dates run 1857 to 1901. Good range of preprinted tax stamps, some cheques have nice vignettes. Eye-catching pieces include Plimpton, Ramsey & Co. Central Bank, 1857, printed in red with two vignettes, and a shield announcing they are dealers in uncurrent gold and silver (at the time when Spanish-American and other foreign coins were being removed from circulation); Louisiana State Bank 1858, filled out in French; Will, Brown & Co., Bankers, McArthur, Ohio, 1867, featuring a familiar reapers vignette. Lot also includes seven later cheques, of which six are unused, mostly illustrated.
