When Casey Baldwin's name is mentioned most think of his contributions to flight and his work with Alexander Graham Bell. He was also a first-rate athlete. Having been awarded the University of Toronto's first "First Colour" award instituted in 1905. As captain of the cricket team, he received the Rendle Merit Medal in silver. It is cased and engraved to Baldwin. The other 2 medals were awarded in 1895 for track and field events. They too are cased and one is silver, the other bronze. Baldwin was also involved in golf, football, baseball and fencing. In 1908, he invented the aileron, the wing flaps which provide lateral stability and maneuverability to airplanes.
