McLachlan-19, Betts-143, Breton-37. 41mm. 38.5g. Cornucopia and BRONZE on edge. The obverse features the portrait of a young Louis XV. The reverse shows Louisbourg in the background with houses and fir trees around, and ships in the harbour and strait left. This medal, which celebrates the founding of the iconic fortress, was struck at the Paris Mint after 1879. Antiqued brass-gold surfaces deepen around the legends. Attractive with important subject matter.
