Betts-444, Breton-31. 41.4mm. 36.3g. Plain edge. Signed B. DUVIVIER. Benjamin Duvivier is one of the better-known French engravers of the period. This elusive historical medal commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Paris on February 10, 1763, which ceded the all French possessions in America to England following the Seven Years’ War. Deep mahogany-brown surfaces reveal glossy violet patina when rotated. An as-made rim break appears on the obverse from about 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock. A rare early striking.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
