Ex. GBA Fall Expo 2016 Sale, CH NS-3B. VF in point of wear, but with rev. corrosion (old and appears stable). 5.866 grams. A photographic comparison of this piece with the plates of the 1925 sale of the W.W.C. Wilson collection shows that this is the same piece as Lot 558 from that renowned sale. That specimen was sold to L.A. Renaud for $21. Renaud, later the curator of the Chateau de Ramezay, was most likely acting as an agent for the true buyer. It was possibly purchased for Ludger Gravel, for whom Renaud made a number of purchases at the Wilson sale, though the Co. 280 in Gravel's collection (described as "Good") was unfortunately not plated when sold by J.C. Morgenthau in 1935. The chain of ownership between Renaud and Cooper thus remains obscure for now. Regardless--with Wilson, Renaud and Cooper, outstanding pedigree and associations for so prized a type.
