Post-Confederation Promissory Notes, 1868 - 1905, all but a few are used but includes an unused commercial college promissory note. Many show bank stamps, where the note was discounted as collateral for a loan, and there are some "rare" banks involved such as Union Bank of Halifax and Bank of Yarmouth. Many have at least one vignette, and sometimes the vignette will have a counterpart on a chartered bank note. There are lots of interesting names to research, including Timmins & Gorman, merchants at Mattawa, Ontario — some of that Timmins family were involved with the founding of Timmins, Ontario. Over fifty documents from the Walter Allan collection.
