St. John's, Newfoundland (?) token.

Obv. ST JOHN'S. Rev. Plain. A second known example of a token earlier described by John Ford in his classic New Netherland's Sale of December 3, 1968. I have taken the liberty of quoting John Ford's comment on the token in that catalogue: "We have not been able to locate the uniface St. John's token in any major Canadian sale of the last three-quarters of a century nor have we been able to place it in any recorded collection of Canadiana. However, the feeling remains with us that we have seen it before, probably in some obscure sale catalogue." The N.N. specimen of the St. John's token, which was accompanied by an example of Br 655 sold for $105., a goodly sum at that time. This specimen is damaged, and was sold in 1997 for $350.00.
