Host Coin of Henri IV (ruled 1590-1610), Vlack 1k Type - 1640 countermark on a 1590 [Saint-Palais Mint] Henri IV Douzain de Navarre, 2nd type, Ciani 1566, Duplessy 1260, Sombart 4452. Very Fine or so, the host coin DOUBLE STRUCK, a rarity in itself in the series. The countermark is on the obverse, the legends mostly full and the date sharp on the obverse as well. This distinct issue is easily identified by the shield being split into two halves, all the other douzain types under this king having a shield without any division or one divided into three or four parts. This type was struck only at this mint only from 1590-4; this date is the most commonly found (and only one with a reported mintage), but is still quite rare with a 1640 countermark.
