Host Coin of Albert & Isabel, for Brabant under Spain, Vlack 1o Type - 1640 countermark on a 1616 Spanish Patard of Albert & Isabel for Brabant (Spanish Netherlands). Very Fine, mostly choice. An extremely well-struck example of this type, on a planchet that is only slightly clipped, with nearly all the legends visible on either side, the individual letters usually strong; the obverse date is especially sharp. Excellent design detail, one of the sharpest examples of the type that we have ever seen as a host coin for a 1640 countermark, and one that will be impossible to markedly improve upon. Medium pewter color, the surfaces pleasing despite a large planchet crack (which was there when the coin was struck), and almost no marks from actual circulation. The countermark is at the center of the reverse, but does not flatten out much obverse detail, adding to the overall eye appeal.
