Host Coin of Louis XII (ruled 1497-1515), Vlack 1e Type - 1640 countermark on a Louis XII Douzain de Provence, Ciani 931B, Duplessy 668. Second type, struck at the Tarascon Mint. Fine to Very Fine, a bit weaker at the left obverse periphery, stronger at the right, the design details weaker than the legends, but all visible. The legends are strongest right where you want them to be, with LVDOVI (for Louis) bold. Any type of host coin for this ruler was unknown to Vlack, this particular type from Provence likely with a much smaller mintage, and the number surviving with a 1640 countermark must be few indeed.
