1719-A [Paris Mint] John Law Silver 20 Sols, Gadoury 295. Very Fine or slightly better, the silver planchet showing some light adjustment marks at the top obverse – a fairly common occurrence on this coinage, with overweight planchets lightly filed to reduce the amount of silver they contained. The legend is weak at a few letters on either side at the adjustment mark, everything else bold, including the date and mintmark. While Paris didn’t strike many copper coins under John Law, they tended to produce more silver coins than any other mint – for this year it produced double the coins of its nearest rival, but in 1720 it didn’t strike any of this denomination, instead producing the 1/6 Ecu and the Livre D’Argent pieces. Nice light silvery gray, a few marks from circulation, but pleasing. The 20 Sols were struck only in 1719-20, with all mints striking the denomination.
