The Lord John Russell Lodge No. 631 was established in 1831 in Merthyr, Wales. It was common practice at the time for ornate silver medals, usually with the arms of the Order shown on the obverse, to be presented to members who had given particularly committed service. "Noble Grand" refers to the title traditionally given to the chairman of a lodge, and this shows that he held this office. The Lodge closed down many years ago and records of the Lodge have disappeared. Inscription "BROTHERS OF THE LORD JNo. RUSSELL LODGE, No.631, of the M.U. of Independent ODD FELLOWS, to P.G. DAVID EVANS, for highly valuable Services. 1838". This is a beautiful, historic Lodge medal and worthy of a healthy bid. Sterling with possible center of gold, usually 22kt, 104mm x 119mm and weighing 115.3 grams.
