1872 Royal Canadian Bank $10 - CH 635-14-08, S/N:5572/D. Another Royal Canadian Bank rarity, this is one of only four known 1872 $10 notes. Two of the four are in the National Currency Collection. Condition is obviously an issue with this note, although it could prove very difficult to obtain a better one. The edges are badly eroded, although some bits have just been rolled in and could be cautiously flattened out again. There is a punch hole cancel, and worst, the entire lower right portion torn is away, taking out almost all of the Crawford portrait. The note is in decent condition where it exists, with the remaining design quite clear and legible, apart from the manuscript signature being very faint. An inverted black B stamp on the back does not appear to be meaningful. The only other privately owned example grades About Good, with significant pieces missing, from the Feb. 2002 Torex Sale.
