1916 James Baird Ltd. 50 Cents Newfoundland Scrip - Rare<BR><BR>James Baird came to NL in 1844 from Scotland. He started in the export & drapery businesses but soon expanded into groceries, wines/spirits & fisheries. Baird survived the 1894 bank failures and in fact bought out several competitors. In 1908, Baird's sons assumed control of the business. The scrip have just recently been discovered and were not included in Rowe's bible of Newfoundland numismatics.

Credit and Deposits: All bidders must be approved by Dawn Bell. Those who do not have an established relationship with Geoffrey Bell Auctions must provide an approved reference or a credit guarantee prior to the sale.
Auction Conduct: All our starting bids will be opened at approximately 10% above the second highest mail or computer bid. If there are no mail bids, auctioneer will start the bids at the reserve price or half of the estimate, advances are at the discretion of the auctioneer. We reserve the right to withdraw any lot prior to the sale. Lots are sold to the highest bidder at an average rate of 150 per hour.
Bidding Procedures: Bids may be made in person, fax 506-657-3083, email bids@gbellauctions.com or by mail. Telephone bids are accepted through an approved agent provided by Geoffrey Bell Auctions at 506-647-7725. All mail, fax and email bids must arrive to our office no later than August 14th, 2008 at 12 noon EST. Also, we are on eBay LiveAuctions and are accepting proxy bids one hour before each session, our eBay Live ID is gbellauctions and Geoffrey Bell Auctions reserve the right to refuse bids deemed not in good faith.
Grading Standards and Description: The Cataloguers have taken every reasonable measure to ensure that all the lots are as described. Geoffrey Bell Auctions have Don Olmstead and George Murray as our grading consultants. Many of the lots are third party graded by PCGS, PMG, ICCS, CCCS and NGC - We feel these are the most recognized grading companies in the industry.
Catalogue Values & References: All values are listed in Canadian Funds. We use Charlton, Haxby, Canadian Coin News Trends, Canadian Coin Dealer Newsletter (Michael Findlay), Cresswell’s Comprehensive Directory of World Communion Tokens, Bowman - Communion tokens of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, Charlton Canadian Government Paper Money 20th edition, Charlton Canadian Canadian Coins 62nd edition, Charlton Canadian Chartered Banknotes 5th edition, Charlton Canadian Colonial Tokens 6th edition, and Charlton Canadian Scrip 1st Edition.
Return Policies: Returns will be accepted by absentee bidders for lots that have been misattributed or incorrectly catalogued. We guarantee that all items are genuine and we will refund anything that has been misrepresented by the cataloguers. Certified grading concerns are to be dealt with through the certified grading company, not Geoffrey Bell Auctions. All floor sales are final, including those who choose to use our agent.
Lot pick-up: August 16th & 17th on the Extravaganza bourse floor (Look for the sign at the back of the room) from 10am-4pm. All lots not picked up after the show will be shipped at the buyers expense.
Payment Details: Cheques must clear before shipping; money orders and certified cheques will be verified and shipped within 48 hours of receipt. Direct deposit into our TD Canada Trust account will result in immediate shipping. All accounts not paid within 30 days will result in an interest charge of 1-1/2% per month calculated from August 15th, 2008.
