Br 523 (1839), Sideview Penny - Courteau 38, CH LC-11Br In his Canadian Numismatics (1886), McLachlan says that he acquired his example of this token from someone who found it in circulation. It was then taken from McLachlan’s collection by a housemaid, who spent it, whereupon it was found in circulation a second time by a collector who sold it once again to McLachlan. A strong VF on the obverse, but numerous light scratches in the field above the bank building; the reverse a problem free VF+. All in all a very desirable token.
This lot is part of the extensive George H. Thomson Collection.
