Br 674 - CH LC-40A-10, overstruck on a Tiffin halfpenny, Br 960, brass, evidence of a coarsely reeded edge, F-VF. The overstrikes of Breton 674 are probable evidence that the brass Tiffins and Bust & Harps were no longer acceptable by the last years of the 1830s and could be bought up in quantity rather cheaply. At the same time, the maker of this bouquet sou, possibly Jean-Marie Arnault, capitalized on the acceptance of the sous to re-circulate the rejected brass pieces at a profit by using them as his planchets.
This lot is part of the extensive George H. Thomson Collection.
