This is arguably one of the biggest mining scams in Canadian history. Founded in 1990 by David Walsh, a down and out promoter with a long history of failed deals and busted out investors. This company was established to capitalize on the diamond craze that was started when diamonds were discovered in the North West Territories. Failing to find diamonds, Bre-X switched to finding gold. Hiring an irascible and controversial geologist, John Felderhoff, Bre-X acquired some mining claims on the island in Borneo in Indonesia. With a series of press releases and a drilling program, the company claimed to have found over 200 million oz of gold. The stock went from $2 to $280. Ultimately the claims were proven to be false and the assay results manipulated. The stock collapsed and investors lost over $6 billion. This is a great item from a major fraud. Definitely an essential addition for any mining collector.
