Bust R/Harp R. C. 20. - CH BL-36. N.E. 7.54 grams. Small, Thick flan. 26 mm. An intriguing piece, it fulfills the Blacksmith criteria in the sense that the obverse bust and reverse harp are reversed, being die-cut facing the same directions as their prototypes, Br. 1012. Where it is lacking in Blacksmith "qualities" is in its somewhat more aesthetic quality and its relief, with the exception of the rambling inscriptions on both obverse and reverse. Of this legend, which is in small letters, Courteau described from an examination of four examples in an unpublished manuscript on the Bust and Harp tokens written in 1933. He makes it out to be as follows: Obv. CHCOBRDGES 111 RUBUS and other undeciperable letters. Rev. RUMG. EBUCAOBOUGO. SO and other undecipherable letters. Courteau considered that this coin served as the prototype for all the other varieties, but I find this hard to believe. The part of legend that appears on this piece is the following: Obv. _________ 111 RUBUS. Rev. RUMG _________ OROO 18. VF, two rev. scratches, below harp. Ex-Willey, Buth Coll.
