Obverse: in a banner around an inner circle: MORBORVM CAVSAS DOCEBO. In the center from a ground line, a bent arm grasping a serpent.  Reverse: UNIVERSITAS TORONTONENSIS. in center: PROPTER MEDICANAM / FELICITER EXCVLTAM / E DONO and below: R. N. STARR M. D. Bronze 34mm, 21.6 grams Medal Breton 144, Leroux 747 - Un-named, but Dr Storer mentions that the dies were by a member of the Wyon family. This medal was catalogued by Alfred Sandham in his supplement of 1872 but was to be later referenced by R. W. McLachlan, and, of course Breton and Leroux. Dr Horatio R. Storer wrote about it in the American Journal of Numismatics (1889) in his article The Medals, Jetons and Tokens Illustrative of the Science of Medicine mentioning known examples in gold, silver and bronze, and that it had been awarded since 1862. Dr Starr of Caradoc, Ontario had founded the medal in his will for the encouragement of the study of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.  Another seldom encountered university medal that was also offered in Jeffrey Hoare’s famed Torex # 6 Catalogue (1988) and as part of The Seminary of Sherbrooke Collection where it realised $780. including fees.
