Canadian Borderline Tokens.

Described by Fred Bowman in the C.N.J. issue of September, 1966, Fred has put together a group of English and Irish tradesmen's tokens that saw circulation in Canada. Atkins in his "The coins and tokens of the possessions and colonies of the British empire", London, 1889 included most of these in his Canada section, under Miscellaneous and doubtful. Bowman listed twenty-eight varieties, of which seventeen of the varieties are present in this collection. All tokens described in this lot are in Copper. Two tokens have been removed, and treated separately in the next two lots. They are listed by Bowman numbers as follows: B. 4, Commerce/Prince of Wales crest, To Facilitate Trade, 1813. V.G.; B. 6. Wellington & Erin Go Bragh, 1813. E. Stephens Penny. Scarce. V.F.-E.F.; B. 8. Sim. to last, dated 1816. V.F.; B. 12. Wellington & Victory, 1814, Edwd. Bewley, 1816. Scarce. F-V.F.; B. 13.
