Canadian Countermark - TK countermarks: On obv. of Commercial Change ½ penny, 1820, Br 727 (Brunk K-16); on rev. of Leslie & Sons ½ penny, Br 718 (M.I. 875, Brunk K-16); on rev. of Facilitate Trade ½ penny, 1823, Br 730 (Brunk K-16); on obv. of Facilitate Trade ½ penny, 1833, Br 730. “T” only partially struck up. (M.I. 876, Brunk K-16). 4 Pcs.

Various speculations have been made concerning the possible issuer of these marks which I have only seen on early (pre-1840) coppers. My most recent notion is that they may represent small change in a lumber camp, and while not provable it seems to me a more tenable suggestion than those previously discussed.

Note: this lot is part of The Richard Cooper Collection.
