Canadian Countermark - TK countermarks: On obv. of Bust & Harp brass ½ penny, 1820, Br 1012, C. 2, holed. (Brunk K-16); on obv. of Bust & Harp brass ½ penny, 1820, Br 1012, C. 7 (M.I. 888, Brunk K-16); on obv. of Bust & Harp copper(?) ½ penny, 1820, Br 1012, C. 8 (M.I. 889, holed. Brunk K-16); on rev. of Bust & Harp brass ½ penny, 1820, Br 1012, C. 11 (M.I. 890, Brunk K-16). 4 Pcs.

Various speculations have been made concerning the possible issuer of these marks which I have only seen on early (pre-1840) coppers. My most recent notion is that they may represent small change in a lumber camp, and while not provable it seems to me a more tenable suggestion than those previously discussed.

Note: this lot is part of The Richard Cooper Collection.
