Canadian Countermark - DR. G.G. WILKINS. curved on rev. of Bouquet-Sou, Br 679 (M.I. 1006, Brunk W-610).

The vicissitudes of Dr. Wilkins’ life have been well documented by Q. David Bowers in his book titled The strange career of Dr. Wilkins, Wolfeboro, 1987. The piece in the collection is of the Type I, large letters mark, which according to Bowers is the commoner of the two. Many Canadian pieces were marked by the doctor, almost all of which are of the Type I variety. As the northern boundary of New Hampshire borders on the Province of Quebec, many Canadian pieces would have been available for Dr. Wilkins’ stamp. (Marked Impressions).
