As stated in Charlton "Test tokens have been used during the various stages of design to ensure a flawless product. Test tokens are utilized for die and die coating testing, for plating process modifications, for dimensional testing, for metal tolerance, for edge profile process, for coin collars, for the conformity of the electromagnetic signature in coins, as well for other uses". Also, "Sales personnel employed by the Royal Canadian Mint offer their customers, or potential customers, a brochure explaining the Mint's services. Accompanying the brochure are three different tokens in three sizes and compositions. This is a very nice offering of many more difficult examples that are rarely offered.
