Central Capital Corp. 1 share green, 1993. This holding company was formed in 1986 by two prominent Halifax entrepreneurs: Reuben Cohen & Leonard Ellen. Starting with a small trust company in Halifax, they grew steadily until the 1980s when they went on a blizzard of acquisitions (32 in all). Central Capital ultimately grew to $17.6 billion in assets under administration. The acquisition of the Central Guaranty Trust Co of Canada ($11 billion in assets along, Canada's fourth largest trust company) proved to be the company's undoing. With a deteriorating economy, and a souring loan portfolio and nearly $2 billion in debt, Central Capital was heading for the scrap heap. The company sold off all available assets at fire sale prices including the Central Guaranty Trust Co (acquired by TD Bank in 1992), shares that were trading at $18.75/share were now at pennies per share. Company is defunct. Certificates from Canada's trust companies are extremely rare and are sought after by collectors. This is a must have for any collector of financial/real estate certificates. BONUS - Jannock Properties Ltd. 100 shares blue 2000. This company was spun off out of Jannock Ltd when they were bought out by Onex Corp in 2000. Shares were distributed to shareholders of Jannock Ltd. This company developed quarries and light industrial properties in Southern Ontario. Wound down in 2009, interesting real estate company.
