Copper Company of Upper Canada So-called Restrike, Br 721 - Copper Company of Upper Canada, CH UC-1A2, copper, handsome Proof-like surfaces. Not a restrike, as is often supposed, but a token from similar, if cruder dies in comparison with the originals. Fabricated by J. Rochelle Thomas in the 1890s and misleadingly claimed by him to be a restrike. See Warren Baker Lists, Nos. 28 and 29 (1977) and Spink’s Numismatic Circular, March-June 1977, for important articles on the subject. This example ex Jeffrey Hoare Sale, June 1992, lot 1068.
This lot is part of the extensive George H. Thomson Collection.
