Die proof vignette, allegorical male on back of 1937 $5 (very slightly altered from 1935 $5, particularly at lower corners). Cut down and mounted, initialled HPD (Harry P. Dawson, the engraver) in pencil, very rare item. Lot also includes engraving of the Will Pay... and Date lines on the 1937 issue, part of order number O-867, with instructions to engrave on copper plate in a specified reduced size; denomination engravings for backs of $100, $500, $1000; two different engraved pieces in which Bank of Canada is curved, used on some early models for 1935 issue (see Walter Allan, Essays and Proofs for the 1935 Bank of Canada Issue, CPMS Journal, 1993 33-87), etc.
