Clowery-111. 51.5mm. 95.7g. Plain edge. Signed. F. BOWCHER. Victor Christian William Cavendish, the 10th Duke of Devonshire, served as Governor General between 1916 and 1921. According to Freeman Clowery, only 40 of these medals were issued in gold (271 in silver, 829 in copper). We presume a healthy number of gold medals have been lost over the years. This lovely example boasts smooth, mark-free yellow-gold surfaces without evidence of cleaning. Finely textured with an appealing matte appearance. There is a minuscule test mark between the buck’s antlers on the upper right reverse and two or three tiny rim ticks elsewhere. Housed in its original black leather box with purple velvet interior.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
