This 1763 seal did duty for Quebec until the Constitutional Act of 1790 that brought into being Upper and Lower Canada. Thomas Major, Engraver of Seals to His Majesty, was instructed to engrave a new seal. By 1793, he had completed his work. Obverse: An oak tree with some of its branches cut off, a pruning knife on the ground, a river and ships at anchor, in the distance a town and church on a rising hill. Major charged 70 pounds 6 pence for engraving plus 43 ounces of silver at 5 pounds, 6 shillings per ounce plus duty of 6 pence per ounce and a leather case with silver clasps coming to a total bill of eighty-four pounds, 8 shilling and zero pence. The reverse features the shield of the Royal Arms for George III. This seal must be considered very scarce.
