Jamieson notes that “during a period of just over two centuries the British Government has, from time to time, presented medals to the North American Indian Chiefs as tokens of friendship, to mark the conclusion of treaties, in order to win their allegiance, or as rewards for services against enemies.” Geoffrey Bell Auctions is proud to present three of these important specimens for your consideration. Any one of these medals would prove to be a centerpiece of the finest collection.

No loop as pictured by Jamieson. Around 1793, medals were presented to Indian Chiefs by the Hudson Bay Company as a means of fostering friendly relations. This idea was to encourage the Indians to bring furs to their posts exclusively. In 1975, Gingras has discovered 6 bronze specimens in museums and 4 in private collections. By C. H. Kughler, George III, Bronze, Jamieson - Fig 20. Rare.
