CH NL10-10-02. PMG Choice Unc. 64 EPQ. James Baird came to NL in 1844 from Scotland. He started in the export & drapery businesses but soon expanded into groceries, wines/spirits & fisheries. Baird survived the 1894 bank failures and in fact bought out several competitors. In 1908, Baird's sons assumed control of the business. The scrip have just recently been discovered and were not included in Rowe's bible of Newfoundland numismatics. Rare. S/N:1740.
