Br 588. Jardin Guilbault. 30 Sous. (The French expression for twenty-five cents). Breton relates an interesting story regarding Leroux's visit to the Birmingham medalist, J. Moore, and ordering 500 of the pieces. That population seems accurate, as the piece is not common. The Gardens were a great attraction in Montreal for many years. Joseph E. Guilbault was an early member, noted as a founder, of the Numismatic & Antiquarian Society of Montreal. The Gardens, which moved about, were first established around 1835. With the Gardens, Guilbault also had established a Museum of Curiosities by 1863, and perhaps slightly earlier. Copper. Deep Brown. Unc. Br 589 Gesangverein Teutonia Gut Fur 5 Cents Brass AU. 2 pcs.
