The Lady Stanley Institute for Trained Nurses was incorporated in 1890 and served as the first nursing school in Ottawa before merging with the Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1924. The building was located at the corner of Rideau and Wurtemburg streets in Sandy Hill. Sanford Fleming served as the school’s first chairman. This beautifully executed medal by Ellis is flawless chocolate-brown with glossy fields.
