McLachlan-157, Breton-137. 45.3mm. 37g. Plain edge. Commemorating the establishment of the Western Congregational Church of Montreal and the laying of the building’s cornerstone on June 10, 1876. The names of the Church’s architects, HUTCHISON & STEELE, appear at the lower obverse. A white metal example like this was distributed to each of the “Sunday school scholars” who took part in the ceremony, according to McLachlan (1886). This example looks like it may have been silvered. The fields are gorgeously toned in vibrant shades of rose, violet, blue, and gold. Terrific eye appeal.
