This medal commemorates the laying of the cornerstone of the Basilica-Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 21, 1841. Examples exist in both white metal (usual) and silver. They can be found either struck or cast. This is a struck example in white metal and fire gilded.
