McLachlan-160, Breton-114. Plain edge. Signed L. C. WYON. The Chapman medal for Classical Literature and Languages is the first in the McGill medal subseries, funded by local merchant Henry Chapman in 1857 (Sandham, 1872). Although recipients received a gold medal, bronze examples were given to subscribers, donors, and institutions. This lovely chocolate-brown representative features glossy fields that reveal powder-blue and violet tones when held at an angle. Virtually flawless.
Ex: Sherbrooke Seminary Collection (Champagne Auctions, 11/2019), lot 766.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
