McLachlan-539, Betts-441, Breton-52, Eimer-701. 41.4mm. 23.0g. Plain edge. Unsigned (by Thomas Pingo). Taken from the Betts reference: “This Medal commemorates various British victories which were regarded as the harbingers of peace (pax auspicata).” The medal mentions Lieutenant Colonel William Amherst at Newfoundland on September 18 — a reference to the Battle of Signal Hill, the final phase in the dispute between Britain and France in North America during the Seven Years’ War. This example in copper (others exist in gilt copper and silver) is essentially unworn and nearly mark-free with moderately glossy medium brown surfaces. The only flaw is a small dig over the 1 in 18 after SEP.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
