57mm. 82.2g. Plain edge. Hallmarks at lower reverse indicate the maker is JR Gaunt & Son of Birmingham, and the year of production is 1955. The firm was established around 1884 by John Richard Gaunt and his son Charles Frederick, both former employees of the Firmin & Son button company. J.R. Gaunt & Son operated an office out Montreal between 1908 and 1984. It was bought out by William Scully Ltd.
A maple leaf, Mount Royal, a notebook and quill, a fleur de lys, and a beaver are featured prominently on the obverse, while the reverse is identical to that of Lr. 1427, originally by J.S. & A.B. Wyon. The central reverse is inscribed MICHAEL / FEINER / WEST HILL / HIGH SCHOOL / JUNE 1959. Satiny surfaces are lightly toned around the rims. A beautiful school medal in outstanding, problem-free condition.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
