XRF analysis revealed a purity of 98.96% (23K+), Not in LeRoux or Breton. 44.9mm, 52.9g (1.6831AGW), Edge engraved: AWARDED TO S. M. LOVELACE 1888. Signed ALLAN WYON. The medal commemorates the first meeting in North America by the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BAAS) in 1884, largely orchestrated by Nova Scotian, Sir John William Dawson who became its first North American president in 1885. The BAAS conferences started in the UK in 1831, and 1884 was the first time that it was held in Canada. It was to be held in Toronto in 1897 and 1924, and Winnipeg in 1909.The Watt Medal is awarded every two years to an engineer of any nationality who is deemed worthy of the highest award that the Institution can bestow. Housed in its original black leather wooden box with purple velvet and white satin interior (Wyon 287 Regent Street. W.). An exceptionally pleasing example, reflective fields contrast against frosted relief elements. Wiped at some point long ago, a rim nick at 1 o'clock and a heavy indentation on cheek, but they pose little distraction. UNC. 1pc. From the Geoffrey Bell Collection.
