North West Company Token - Br 925, CH FT-10B, North West Company token in copper. Much rarer than brass. The specimen in the Stack’s Bowers 2013 sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. collection, lot 21027, was graded choice VF and brought a hammer price of $18,000. This example is far superior to that and to the next most recent auction appearance of a specimen in the Stack’s January 2011 Americana sale which brought $11,500. This example lacquered, with minor obverse pitting and insignificant, light corrosion between some letters of the reverse legend. Ex: Peter Broeker collection; Ex: Joe Lepczyk Sale, November 20, 1981. Weight 10.54 grams; diameter 29.20 mm; reeded edge; straight reverse; neatly holed as usual. Obverse good EF; reverse AU. A stunning example of a very rare and desirable token and the highlight of the Thomson Collection.
This lot is part of the extensive George H. Thomson Collection.
