Royal Canadian Bank $2 1865 - Continental Bank Note Co. printing, Payable at Toronto, 7389/A, Charlton #635-12-02-02.
A remarkable companion to the preceding note. Two of these $2 notes are recorded but only this one is available to the collector, the other note being in the Bank of Canada collection. The note is conservatively graded VG10 by PMG, with internal repairs noted on the back of the holder. Despite moderate staining, the note is quite clean for the grade, heavy wear being confined to one vertical crease the back.
The Prince of Wales is seen at the left, the Royal Canadian Bank seal superimposed on the Royal Crest at centre, and a pioneer farmer sharpens his scythe at the right. Signatures are T. Woodside, engraved at left, and Jas. Metcalfe, manuscript at right.
